Can we predict the execution time for method ?

Is it possible to predict the execution time for a method or block of code ?

Hi
You can predict execution time only method is executed.
You can display time using DateTime.Now before executing method and after executing method.

You can use the Environment.TickCount variable which enables you to see the ticks (milliseconds) counted since the Windows Boot.

public int example() { // This method returns the time took to execute the method in milliseconds
int start = Environment.TickCount;
// Method content here
int end = Environment.TickCount;
int time_took = end - start;

return time_took; // in milliseconds :D
}

The method I wrote above (C#) returns the time took to execute the method content (return it as an int)

I mean without executing the method like copying any file OS shows time remaining.

What you have mentioned is also an Program (like an API call to OS). You have executed that program when you copy the files. That's all! So my point here is, there is no possibilities to measure the "execution" time of a method without executing it. Normally a method execution will differ based on the data that processed. On your example itself, the time required to copy the files will differ based on the file size. :)

Did you meant, how much time a method takes to execute? If so, Yes. You can, just add "DateTime.Now()" in the beginning and end of the method. Like below:

public void yourMethod()
{
Console.WriteLine("Start Time :" + DateTime.Now());
// Method body here
Cosole.WriteLine("End Time:"+ DateTime.Now());
}
