does Common Language Runtime achieve Platform independence to .NET environment ? or it only gives Language independence to .NET environment ?

CLR give "Language Independence" to .NET framework. Platform independence is achieved "rewriting" and "adapting" .NET framework to another platform, but CLR have something to see with this because your .exe/dll run in windows or linux (without any change, binary compatibility), if you have proper framework. Actually, Microsoft have "rotor", an "shared source" framework implementation that run over unix and macintosh, an "mono", an open source initiative for a linux's framework. Federico
