convert string to string []

Actually, I think I must have mis-read this question when I first posted as my answer is for converting a String() to a String, not the other way around!

However, there still isn't any conversion defined between a String and a String() though you can obviously do:

    Dim a As String() = {"Suthish"}

Now a.ToCharArray() gives you a Char() consisting of the individual chararacters of the String but there's no conversion defined between a Char() and a String() so that doesn't really help. Perhaps the best you can do is:

    Dim name As String = "Suthish"

    Dim a As String() = new String(name.Length){}

    For i As Integer = 0 To name.Length - 1

      a(i) = name.Chars(i)

    Next i

You can't - there are no explicit conversions defined between the two types.

However, you can do something like this:

Dim arr as String() = {"Gurjeet", "Singh"}

Dim name As String = String.Join(" ", arr)

You can also assign any particular element of a string array to a 'scalar' string variable:

Dim name2 As String = arr(1)
