Create a calendar with due date email alert/reminder

SharePoint can notify you when anything updates in the list like someone creates event or modify it using alerts. But it doesn't provide any mechanism that checks due date with OOTB. For that it provides workflow or MS Flow mechanism.

There is no OOTB function to send the alert/reminder based on due date. you need to create workflow to trigger the email to the user.

 

If you are using SharePoint On-Premises then you can go with Designer workflow,

if you are using SharePoint Online then you can go with Power Automate
