Create board 5X5 ,red,black

The String.Format method works in a similar way to the Console.Write or Console.WriteLine methods.

The first argument can contain numbered placeholders enclosed in curly braces i.e. {0} and {1} in this example.

These placeholders are replaced in order by subsequent arguments to the method.

So, {0} is replaced by m + 1 and {1} is replaced by n + 1 after first converting them to strings.

It's a useful way of formatting strings which can be easier to write (and read) than using the '+' or concatenation operator.

If you set gridSize = 5, clr1 = Black and clr2 = Red, then that should draw your board when the form loads.

To give each Panel a name based on the row and column it's in, make the following change:

   var newPanel = new Panel

   {

      Size = new Size(tileSize, tileSize),

      Location = new Point(tileSize * n, tileSize * m),

      Name = String.Format("Square {0},{1}", m + 1, n + 1)

   };

and to add a click handler for each red square, add this code at the end of the inner for statement just after the if/else statement which sets the BackColor property:

   if (newPanel.BackColor == Color.Red)

   {

      newPanel.Click += RedSquareClicked;

   }

Finally, add this handler:

   private void RedSquareClicked(object sender, EventArgs e)

   {

      // sample code to identify the square clicked

      Panel p = (Panel)sender;

      MessageBox.Show(p.Name + " was clicked");

   }
