Question

I have a bachelors degree in Electronics and communication Engineering, and am a .Net developer. Will doing masters in Data Science help me build my developer career? What will be the pros of doing Data science?

Hi Soumya, Your original Q. was about doing Masters, so you can still do it if you wish to but do it in Computer Science. Later, continue with .NET Certifications etc. there are whole bunch of professional level courses like I mentioned I did on Big-Data so you will have masters in CS and data in packets on specialized fields. .NET has great future as Mahesh Chand has also explained in his detailed Article on "Future of .NET". So, my recommendation is to do Masters in CS if really want to, spend more and more time in learning .NET and stick with community to contribute and learn. In addition to technical skills (.NET etc.) also focus on your interpersonal skills like communication (verbal and written), presentation etc. Hope this helps. Best Wishes.

Hi Soumya, I would like to understand why Data Science. Are you really interested in Data Analysis and related fields. I did big-data course and I found only those people in there; who has no programming experience. They just work with tools and dashboards to play with massive data and make that presentable and understandable. My view is; that don't just do something because everyone is talking about it or it appears to be hot topic. Also analyze the future prospects in relation to your skills, background and interest level. Well, then why did I do Big-Data myself. Firstly, I wanted to know what is it, what can be done and most importantly what is there in Big-Data which can be used with .NET. I have come across people who has done Masters in Computer Science and working in Data field. So see what is your driving factor to be specific in Data Science and then only decide. My view is not to demotivate you, rather help you ask yourself why, and at last only you have to decide. So don't bother about what I or others are recommending. Hope this helps. Best Wishes.

Hi Vidya Vrat, Appreciate your response! I was just trying to dig deeper into information about Data Science so that I can take a decision. I am just trying to understand whether it'll help me develop my career or not. Your answer has given me a view of what it exactly is and will definitely help me take a decision. Could you suggest then what other course would be appropriate to develop my developer career?

Data Scientist - Hot subject these days, great future. Yes you can be a developer, can learn Google's Bigquery, Big Data, Hadoop etc .Net is rarely used in this field (I guess), do a good research. But there are lots of .Net supportive libraries and tools available. Wait for more replies from our members.
