DataAdapter functionality in detail

Hi

I am curious to see how the DataAdapter works in detail. Maybe even see some code?? I would like to see how it handles the result from SQL and how it goes on to fill a dataset or datatable.

I tried Googling, but came up empty. I was hoping that someone might know of some articles or other write-ups that covers the subject?
