database barcode in VB 2013

Hi 

I have been given an project to create a program for a grocerystore. The thing is that they want a databace for all the items innthe store, and they want to buy a barcode scanner. Their mission for me, is that when they scan an item it will come on the screen, and it will give them the price, name, and how many items bought and how many items left in the store
