MD5 is a one-way cryptographic hash function, meaning that once a value is hashed using MD5, it cannot be reversed to obtain the original value. MD5 is designed to be a one-way function for securing data by generating a fixed-length output based on the input message. You can't !! You should know that MD5 is not an encryption. It's a cryptographic hash. You cannot decrypt a hash back to the original content. Because of collisions [A collision is where more than one input string can generate the same hash value. MD5's hash result contains such a small number of bits (as far as hashes go), the chances of a collision is higher than other hashes using more bits.] , you cannot guarantee that the text that technique comes up with is the only string that generated that hash. They used a dictionary of known hash values representing known strings. It's a "give us a hash value and we look up the string we used to generate that hash". => MD5 has been cryptographically broken and considered insecure . For this reason, it should not be used for anything. Instead, developers should switch to the Secure Hash Algorithm or a Symmetric Cryptographic Algorithm. With current GPUs and hash cracking tools, using MD5 is barely better than using nothing at all. It is always recommended to store user passwords using a hashing algorithm and you should find that it is equally easy to use SHA-2 in place of MD5 in any modern programming framework.
