It is my understanding that it can be used for creating animation and flair to websites. [Yes, you are Right, You can Create Animations] I am also under the impression that it's output is javascript.
[there are 2 types
1) WPF - Window Application
2) Silverlight Web Application - which uses javascript]
I have just finished a course in XHTML and CSS, and am interested in adding a little creative motion and animation to my websites. Is Blend the tool that I need? [Yes, You can Using Expression Blend, Blend is the Right tool for creating Animations]
I'm also confused about Silverlight. [Silverlight will execute in browsers]Is it similiar to Flash? [In Silverlight you can use XAML which is very powerfull tool for collabrating Developer and Designer work] If you design your website with Silverlight conventions, will your site be totally non-functional in browsers, where the user has not downloaded the silverlight capability from MS? [You should have silverlight Browser Plugin, Do not worry, I beleave in Next version of browsers will have default silverlight plugins ]
I've watched the demo's and am still confused as to what I can and cannot do with Blend, in the context of website developement.
Any clairification would be greatly appreciated ahead of time.
