difference between property and method

A property is really a combination of methods.

For example, this code:

private int myInt;

public int MyProp

{

get { return myInt; }

set { myInt = value;}

}

is equivalent to (and is turned by the C# compiler into) this:

private int myInt;

public int get_MyProp()

{

return myInt;

}

public void set_MyProp(int value)

{

myInt = value;

}

So, as you can see, a property is 'syntactic sugar' for a pair of get/set accessor methods.

It doesn't necessarily have to be read/write but can be read-only (get but no set) or - more rarely - write only (set but no get).
