I want to know meaning of DOT(.) in the .NET word ?

Have you heard of a tail wagging a dog? Sometimes people say things like that. As Vulpes indicates, big companies such as IBM and Microsoft have powerful marketing people. Many times it is the marketing people that wag the company, not the technical people. There are many terms that Microsoft uses that are not logical. The marketing people want you to be confused. I try to not let them succeed in confusing me.

The term ActiveX is a marketing term; things like COM objects, automation and OLE are older terms and it is difficult for us to understand what ActiveX is tecnically. Another confusing term is Visual Studio. What is visual about VS? Is it the IDE? All IDEs are visual, including the Microsft one that preceded VS. So perhaps VS is for writing visual applications but that is not logical to me either.

Oh, and here is a really big one; this is a 10 on the Richter scale. They call the MSDN forums social but there is not a single social forum in the MSDN forums.

The best way to understand Microsoft terminology is to understand that Microsoft marketing people does not want us to understand.

Note that people of India tend to say DOT Net but I have not seen that in the MSDN documentation. Microsoft always uses .Net. And that is another way that Microsoft marketing confuses us; both ".net" and "c#" have punctuation in them so that makes it difficult to search for those subjects using search engines.

    .Net can be described with different meaning's. But Perfectly matched is, that would be Network Embedded Technology, i think. 

Expansion for .Net is Network Enabled Technology..
The whole ".NET" name was a complete marketing decision. 
Not wanting to position themselves along side of the .COM (boom and complete failure)
.NET was the final outcome.
