Field suggestion

People choose the track based on their passion. It is a very important thing as we can convert our 8 hours work into 8 hours fun OR 8 hours woe!

Additional to passion, we need to ensure there is demand on the respected area.

Regarding 3 topics you mentioned, I feel Development have more opportunities. Database can also be included in Development as there are only few applications without database.

In the development, database area we can mainly choose from .Net, Java. If you are in .Net, there are more people to help you :) Within development you can choose Web, Mobile or Desktop applications. Currently, i see the youth are more interested in Mobile development techs like Android, iPhone, Windows Phone.

Networking would be a rare piece of arena, i do not have enough knowledge on commenting about it.
