Thanks sailorfoley, but unfortunately it hasn't. Under References, the project already has System.Web and System.Web.Services. The error is still the same. I tried changing "user" to "SYSTEM" in the processModel section of the Machine.Config file, with similarly little success. Any other ideas? Yes, you've cracked it this time, sailorfoley! Thanks very much - I had long since given up and moved on, but I've just gone back and tried what you said and it was very satisfying not to get that blooming error message anymore! The developer was an older version than the web server, as you've correctly guessed. Regards, Martyn.

Change these lines that are referenced in your web.config file: Line 68: Line 69: Line 70: Line 71: to this : Line 68: Line 69: Line 70: Line 71: i.e. take out the System.Web and the comma before it and it should be ok. Hope this helps. It looks like your using an old version of the framework either on your web server or on your development machine. If this is the case try upgrading both to a similar version and all should be ok.

In Visual Studio.Net right click your project and select the "Add Reference" menu. In the box that then appears on screen select System.Web This should solve your problem.
