File Reading Asp.Net MVC

Good day

I would like to find about how to read a static file in asp.net mvc. I have a specific textfile I would like data to be read from and displayed on my webpage. I dont want to choose the specific file upload. So it should run from the page load.

you have to use this much //get the txt filepathstring file = Server.MapPath("~/App_Data/output.txt");//getting data from filestring filedata = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(file); now you can manipulate this filedata what kind of data contains in your txt file then may be i can suggest further

Sorry I just clicked, I have updated my code accordingly.

But keep recieving this error
Invalid JSON primitive: University.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Invalid JSON primitive: University.
Source Error:
Line 22: string Json = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(file); Line 23: JavaScriptSerializer ser = new JavaScriptSerializer(); Line 24: var personlist = ser.Deserialize>(Json); Line 25: return View(personlist);
And dont understand why

Can I replace this though? As its Java and I am supposed to use c#

yes you can replace json file with txt file. but after getting the data from file. you can you use it how you want to use its upto you.

Could I replace the JSON example with a .txt file? And how would I do it in C#? Rather than JavaScript? Sorry I have never used MVC before so all brand new to me. Thanks!

Hi,

If the file should not be directly available via URL, you should put it in App_Data.

For reading it, just use:

var fileContents = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(Server.MapPath(@"~/App_Data/file.txt"));

and pass this varible to View.
