It takes lots of effor to become DBA or database specialist

First you need to decide than in which you should go for like :

- Oracle , MySql , Sql server etc

You need outstanding skills like few of :

- operational skill

- logical and technical skill

- great decision making skill

etc..

And yes salary bas is really hight and increasingly

Note :

Nowadays most of the company require some cerification [which actually does not matter at some point of time]

Like : oracle certified , sql server certified etc
