How jagged array is different from normal array?

In Java:

a two dimensionsal array is an array of arrays

a three dimensional array is an array of array of arrays

and so.

Usually, the inner arrays have the same length.

However, this is not necessary and, if some or all of the inner arrays have different lengths, the multi-dimensional array is said to be jagged.
