@Arijit API are of different types , but when we say API, 99% times we simply mean web api , you can create a web api in any language , if you follow .Net then there is a collection of builtin libraries which help you to create web api the technology itself called as web api where we create Rest/Http services inshort web api. Now the web api can be consumed by desktop app using restclient, httpclient or webclient easily.
