how to call External web API in SharePoint library form

Hi all,

I have requirement like i have to load countries list in the dropdown of sharepoint Library default new and edit form.The countries list will be call from external Web api.Is it possible to call the external web api in the sharepoint library default form.Any reference would be helpful.Thanks in advance.
