how to change colour of first column in gridview ?

i have a gridview first column of it is a autogenerated select button so user cant see properly the select column so i want to hghlight it with different colour.

i have see changing row color but how to change column color ?

hello dear,

you have to use below code:
protected void RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
//Check if it is not header or footer row
    if(e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
    {
        if(e.Row.RowIndex == 0)
             e.Row.Cells[0].BackColor = Color.Red;
        if(e.Row.RowIndex == 1)
e.Row.Cells[0].BackColor = Color.Green;
    }
}

but how can i apply to all the fields of column it taking colour by row

1. GridView1.Columns[0].ItemStyle.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red;
i used this but its giving error inex out of range.non negative not allowed
