How to get asp.net client id at external javascript file

this is not work

var img = document.getElementById('<%= ImgProfile.ClientID %>');

give error null reference;

You can use Hidden Field with runat="server"

c# code
hiddenFieldValue.Value = "this is the value";
javascript code:
var valuePercent = document.getElementById("hiddenFieldValue").value;
also you can use cookie and url query string.
