How to make DLL file in .net?

Developes are constantly saying DLL but there are many types of DLLs. In .Net a Class Library is a DLL and you are probaly asking about Class Libraries (as has been indicated). Developers should not say DLL without clarifiying what type of DLL. If it is a .Net Class Library that you need then calling it a Class Library would make it much easier to understand, as has been indicated in previous replies.

The DLL file will be located in the bin/debug or bin/release folder, depending on the build configuration that you selected.

Create a project using class library, simple compile it, you can see the pdb and dll files in your bin, debug folder.

You will find dll in bin folder under your solution.

• bin/Debug  if you build with debug option from Visual Studio.
• bin/Release If you build with release option from Visual Studio.

You can find DLL as per below path detail.

Path: DriveName\..\Project_Name\bin\Debug\Project_Name.dll

i.e. D:\Project_Name\bin\Debug\Project_Name.dll

The general steps to create a DLL in C# using Visual Studio:

1. Open Visual Studio and create a new project. Select “Class Library” as the project template.
2. Give the project a name and location, and then click “Create.”
3. In the Solution Explorer, open the “Class1.cs” file. This is the default file that is created for a new class library project.
4. Write the code for your DLL in the “Class1.cs” file. You can add additional classes and files as needed.
5. Build the project by clicking on “Build” → “Build Solution” or press “Ctrl + Shift + B”
6. The DLL file will be located in the bin/debug or bin/release folder, depending on the build configuration that you selected.

Note: You can also make a DLL file using the command line interface by using csc.exe, which is the C# compiler.
