The First step you need to know is What RIA is and How it works (Async Model)?So though not common but i would suggest you to go through this article

Silverlight alone will not solve your problem .For LOB app you need to know other frameworks along with Silverlight.For e.g. Entity Framework and WCF RIA .So you have to start learning a set of technologies.Check with the links bellow with respect to their order .
