Welcome to Silverlight World.
Visit the silverlight website it has a lot of tutorials and samples.

Find or make up a small project where you can use it. Try and find a friend or someone you know to help you learn.
And try some books (Pro Silverlight 4 in C# by MacDonald) and lots of googling, watching videos from http://silverlight.net/.
If you have experience with WPF that will help you. But if not the best way is to start with tutorials and samples.

Is it necessary to know WPF for Silverlight?
Mahesh,
We are converting and old project to Silverlight RIA, what all necessary steps to take.
Also, i heard that lots of bandwidth needed for Silverlight Applications in Internet/Intranet.
