I think, it is good to start your career in Windows phone apps. You already know about the windows application with C# or VB and you might have enough knowledge in Windows Application hence my opinion is you can take chance to work on different than your current technology.
In IT market, you have to update yourself with the latest technology and Windows 8 phone apps is latest platform and it is microsoft technology. So, it is easy to learn.
Currently, mobile technology is very fastest growing and going forward you can also move on Android or Object C(Iphone) language easily because of mobile platform.
