Sharing the good information.

The links posted by Dhirendra seem to do be good. Another option I have used myself is through Silverlight. Using Silverlight have its own perks like portability and security. This approach will require you to run the project in an elevated user privileges. If you want to scan using Twain, you will need to include in your project either a COM object or a WinForm to be used by the Twain DLL because it will need a window handle. I have found a project that utilizes the COM Window handle to enable Twain scanning in Silverlight. See the following link:
