Installing C# windows application

Question

Hi,

I would like to kindly ask for an answer if anybody knows.
Do I have to have Visual Studio 2008 installed on somebody's computer if I want to install the C# application that I have made and publish (to install it from the setup file I made for)?

When I am at my computer, I set the path and connect to the network computer database. There wasn't any error and any problem. It worked perfectly. But when I made the exe on my computer and tried to install it on the computer to which I connected i.e. which contains the database that I used, there was a problem. The path i.e. the connection string that I use is: connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="\Name of the computer\Users\Public\Kazneni bileti VS\Kazneni bileti.mdb""

Its a problem with database connectivity, and there is no problem with .NET. Please verify the path, and check if the firewall is causing the problem.

Hi, I changed the path for the database, and chose it from the local area network, but it didn't work again on the computer where I installed it. It showed that the installation completed successfully, but it doesn't work, doesn't open when I try to run it.

Yes, when you install the application, you would configure it to use the database in whatever location the database is in for the system being installed into. There are articles that explain that; look in this web site for relevant articles. I think it depends on whether your application uses a database that already exists in the system before installation of your application or if your application creates the database. The solution is different depending on which of those are true. If the database already exists, then your setup program must either find it or prompt the user to tell you where it is. If your setup program creates the database then it is probably possible for the setup to create it and then configure the application to use the database from the location it is created at.

My database is on my computer and when I write the OleDbConnection I put the path where my database is. But I suppose it is a problem when I try to install it on another computer, since the user's ms access database is on his computer on another place. So, should I first change the path of the database and then deploy/release it? And the version I use is .net framework 3.5 sp1.

No. You definitely do not need to have VS installed in systems that are not being used for development. That is an important difference between a Release build and a Debug build; a Debug build uses libraries that need VS installed in the system that they execute in. If you publish/deploy an application built using its release configuration then that should be installable without VS. Look for articles about what is redistributable, as in the .NET Framework 2.0 Redistributable Package Reference article.

Install service using InstallUtil.exe To install or uninstall windows service (which was created using .NET Framework) use utility InstallUtil.exe . This tool can be found in the following path (use appropriate framework version number).
