IR remote controlling for windows 10 raspberrypi

I want to controll my uwp application which is deployed on raspberrypi by using tv remote,for that i am connecting IR sensor for my raspberrypi GPIO pin,then how to give commands to the device by remote??

I am slightly confused about your set-up. For the Raspberry Pi to pick the signal the receiver must be compatible with remote. Without this it will not be possible, i think.

You probably need to buy a separate remote control kit (that is what i did) and use it. This way we are sure that both parts are compatible with each other.

You will also get a source code showing what value to check to know which button is pressed.
