Is it necessary to use Entity Framework instead of ADO.NET in ASP.NET MVC?

No, the fact is EF uses the ado.net on the top of it to speedup the development process with less error. Therefore, ADO.net is always have better performance than EF. I personally use Ado.Net for all my projects.

Hi Pravinkumar,

It is not necessary to use entity framwork instead of ado .net. First of all entity frame work is built top of ado .net so obviously ado .net is better in performance then EF.

As Amit stated, EF is banificial in speed up development and it is very powrful once linq come with EF and read off data layer code.

Heyy, The ADO.NET Entity Framework enables developers to create data access applications by programming against a conceptual application model instead of programming directly against a relational storage schema. The goal is to decrease the amount of code and maintenance required for data-oriented applications. Working with entities and letting the framework handle the basic select, update, insert & delete. In ado.net you write the SQL queries directly against tables/columns/procedures and you don't have entities so it's much less object-oriented.

Hello, For your large domain project i suggest to go with the Entity Framework because EF is an object-relational mapper that allows the developers to interact with the relational data using the domain-space objects.It works on the top on the ADO.NET by handling the ADO.NET provider. ADO.NET is faster compare to EF. The ADO.NET provides the dataset, datatables, command, and connection objects.It allows you to work on the higher level objects such as managers,workers,suppliers etc. The ADO.NET provides the set of software components that the developer can use access data and various data services in the database
