That overhead is *always* worth it. Esp. if you expect high volume, the knowledge which actions use up most time, IO etc. is crucial. As production and dev are not equal, you won't have valid data from dev to see why (maybe) your prod environment has problems.

yes, there is no big effect and obviously, you gain a lot, you can analyze the statements and optimize them. so yes, keep it enabled.
