Hi.

There is no such maxlength property exist for ItemTemplate. MaxLength property only exist in Textboxes. But still if you want to restrict upto 20 characters then you can do like this,

<%#Eval("Comments").ToString().Substring(0, 20)%>

In case the length of the string is expected to be less than the display length, you can use <%# Left(Eval("Comments").ToString(), 20)%> This won't generate any error even if the length is less than 20 Further reference https://forums.asp.net/t/1136480.aspx?How+can+I+Limit+the+displayed+text+lenght+inside+a+GridView+ Do let me know if it solves your problem
