manipulate explorer.exe

Hello,
Our company uses a small tool written in c# where we can enter a 5 digit project number and it redirects you to our project disk on the network. It saves the users some time searching for their projects.

It is possible to manipulate explorer.exe so when a 5 digit project number is entered in the address bar, the explorer.exe will do the same? I think a .NET application should be able to do it, but I don't know how.

Any ideas?

I think it makes much more sense to write a macro or add-in for Visual Studio so the project number can be found from within VS.

Yes, we already have a tool that does it, but it is a standalone winforms application which users have to start.

Somehow I want to alter the explorer.exe when people go to my computer and enter a 5 digit in the address bar it will also forward to the project share.

You say that your company already has a tool that does what you are asking how to do so I don't understand the question.
