MS Access as Database

In my present working company...In some projects..Java people are using Access database(for windows)...But most of the projects we are using Oracle, Sql Server and Mysql....

I know someone working in a large corporation that makes USA military weaponry. He has developed a system that downloads data from the weapon to an Access database. So this is the type of system that Generals in the Pentagon might be using. I think that the system is not designed very well at all, for many reasons. His management insisted upon use of Access.

As far as just the tables are concerned, there is not much difference between SQL Server and Access. Access is not designed for use as a distributed or multi-user database but if features such as that are not needed then Access could work well, theoretically. I certainly would not recommend use of Access with C# programs but I am sure you can find it in use in many places if you needed to. It will continue to be used by people that know it.

Yes, yesterday one of my friend who is working in SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited) asked me to develop an web based complain system where client will submit his computer's hardware or software related issues to IT team and they will fix this by visiting appropriate address in SAIL. When I asked about the Database then he said, 'abhi you have to use Access', I socked coz they are still using Access. Well, I developed that system within 30 to 60 min. and also I stick one condition that I can't configure this on your intranet coz I have no experience over this.

even IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) Regional Centers are still using Access for his local websites.

So, I confidently say 'Access' are still in use in web based apps too as well as system apps.
