Newbie..what language?

Hello, I'm a linux dude moving to windows 7. I would like to get into development on this platform. I have a little experience with ruby but thats it. I was wondering if I should start with vb or c#. Will learning vb make learning c# easier..or does it matter...or should c++ be first. I am open to producing anything...would like to create a .net identi.ca app if you need to see a goal.
