I am developing asp.net web form application.Frame work 4.0

I want to include online chat feature ...

Online members should populated based on certain conditions.

Please help me on below things...

1.Basic Idea of implementing chat feature ..

2. How i can maintain chat history ..

3.what technology i have to use ?

4.Without third party tool how we can implement.?

5.Have any free third party tool ?
