OnPrem (On-Premises)

• Disadvantages: High upfront costs, maintenance overhead, and limited scalability.

IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)

• Example: Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 instances.

• Use Case: A startup needs scalable computing resources without the need to manage physical hardware.

• Advantages: Scalability, flexibility, and reduced upfront costs.

• Disadvantages: Requires management of OS, middleware, runtime, data, and applications.

PaaS (Platform as a Service)

• Example: Google App Engine.

• Use Case: A software development team needs a platform to deploy and manage applications without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.

• Advantages: Simplified application deployment, automatic scaling, and reduced management overhead.

• Disadvantages: Limited control over the underlying infrastructure and potential vendor lock-in.

• Azure IaaS:

  • Example: Hosting a virtual machine in Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) for a company that needs flexible server management without investing in physical infrastructure.
  • Use Case: A company migrating an on-premises Windows/Linux server to the cloud but still needing control over OS and applications.

• Azure PaaS:

  • Example: Hosting a web app using Azure App Service and Azure SQL Database.
  • Use Case: A startup developing a SaaS-based web app without worrying about infrastructure, database management, or OS updates.

• Azure SaaS:

  • Example: Using Microsoft 365 (Office 365) for cloud-based email and collaboration.
  • Use Case: A business that wants email, document management, and collaboration tools without managing servers or software updates.
