What is parsing?

Parsing is to break a set of string or commands or to analyze the string.
Now taking an example as XML. We need a parser to parse the xml file to get the data out of it in the class format for performing operations.
Another example you can take trees. We want data from the tree in the sorted order for that we need to parse the tree get the out the sorted data.

Compilers uses parser to parse the functions and tokens to compile the code and convert it into machine language.

Usually, when you are parsing data, you are taking it in one form and trying to understand it in another form. Parsing usually applies to text or string - the act of reading text and converting into other useful / understanding format.
