Property Of Dataset in ADO.NET

A DataSet is an in-memory representation of a relational database.

It has a Tables collection which contains representations of the database's tables and a Relations collection whish stores the relations between those tables.

A DataTable in turn has Columns and Rows collections to represent the columns and rows of the corresponding table in the database.

One way of retrieving data from a database is to use a DataAdapter to fill a DataSet. Changes can then be made to the DataSet and (in due course) the changes can be written back to the database itself.

It's also possible to create a DataSet which is independent of a relational database and just use it as an in-memory container for data.
