Pulling images from a database but wrong file name

Instead of using a page I am using a http handler but this only resolves having a dummy page laying around. You are write, I can add a dowloadlink and set attachment to solve the problem. In all other cases I am doing a "Content-Disposition" "inline" so that the media is shown in the browser. The filename hint works for images but not for PDFs. If you have adobe acrobat installed then the pdf inlines into the browser fine but if you click the save button in the acrobat control it wants to save the file as File.PDF based on the dummy file name the handler responds to which is File.aspx. I am not sure it its an oversight on adobe or if they can even obtain the filename hint when they open up their control but they are not using it. Thanks for the response, I have tried about a hundred different incarnations to get this to work.

It is not in your hands. If the "page"s filename is page.aspx (although it is an image) most browsers use the filename as an estimate. However, you could provide a "donwload image" link, and you could give the browser a hint to use different filename when saving. Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=image.jpg"); Hmm, I haven't tried if this even works in your case(without different download link), have a try and tell me!
