Purpose of Classic and Integrated mode in IIS

when i changed the mode from integrated to classic in IIS 8.5 my MVC 5 application stoped working?

what are the real pupose of these modes ? when to use one over another.

The one that I know is:-

1.Ananymous authentication uses AppPoolIdentity in Integrated mode but if we want to tell IIS to use IUser account , we have to enable impersonation and have to change integrated mode to Classic.

what are other puposes?
