Q: SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012?

Hello guys, my name is Dee, I'm a Systems Analyst and I would like to ask for your help regarding choosing the right SQL server? My project is to create a web application using ASP.NET but I need to submit a server proposal. Which would you recommend, SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012? And also, I am not a hardware person so I don't know what to put in my server proposal. Please help me.. Thank you, I would really appreciate it.

Although I'm not a person that believes that the newest is always better, I would go for 2012. As a developer, it has given me some advantages over 2008R2. It also will (more than likely) be supported longer.

For hardware, I'm not the specialist. Some thoughts: it highly depends on the requirements.
- You only need real server hardware if your system is mission critical. If it's not mission critical, you can happily live with decent desktop hardware; for the price of a server, you can buy a few of them ;-)
- Regardless, you need two of them (one as backup); consider master/slave configuration.
- Get as much memory as you can; I'd rather get a slower processor than less memory.
- Get fast harddisks.
That's some of the things that I would consider.
