Realtime impact of the .NET framework

Hi, actually, I'm also new in .net and currently Im trying to migrate some of my applications from vb6 to its framework. I've read some books concerning .net architecture (ado.net to be precise) and i've learned that .net does was designed for disconnected access. .net first try to connect to the datasource, then, you get the data that you want and have it stored on a dataset and then close the connection. unfortunately, the current .net framework does not support connected access to the database. In some ways, disconnected feature of .net is pretty much acceptable if you are not doing programs that needs live data (i.e. flight scheduling applications) since it reduces the amount of resources you need as compared to the connected method that we use in previous version of ado. On the other hand, .net has the dataadapter object that you can use to update the data you have stored on the dataset, you might want to use the data adapter's FILL function to updated the dataset and synchronize your data from the data source with the dataset. This might help you update data you have stored into the dataset so that you can display updated information to the user. But, this method will definitely require your program to update the dataset from time to time. Unlike in connected method, every changes from the data source is automatically updated and displayed to any bound controls on the datasource. I Hope I've shared something that answers your question.
