Realtime logging using C#

Hi,
I am new to C'# and would like to develop an application in which it reads data from IO and updates(realtime) it on the screen. Can any suggest me few pointers for this?

This is for desktop. We could think of data coming from socket.

Whether it is Desktop or Web? what you mean by IO here?
