Replica of Sharepoint Online Publishing Site

Hi,

How can i create a replica of a sharepoint online production site? We want to use this replica site for development purpose. Creating a site template is not an option as it is a publishing site and the option is missing.

Is there any other way to achieve this other than using 3rd party tools like Sharegate, Metalogix,etc? Also will i able to create a replica of the Sharepoint Online Publishing site using the trial version of these tools?

Please advice..

@Nanddeep: Even i am under the impression that the error is because i am trying to restore a top level site collection as a subsite.

I am following the instructions provided in the below link:

The possible issue is you are trying to restore subsite as a top level site.

Hi,

Yes, I have checked the templateid for the source site. Below is the image -

and i am passing the same templateid in the script. It still isnt working.

If you are using PnP "save site as template" approach, the base template for the site should be same.

Hi Shail,

In Normal for Publishing Site the template id will be CMSPUBLISHING#0 1033.

Just ensure the template Id is matches with new site which you going to be create.

I am using the PnP approach for getting the publishing site template and creating a new sitecollection and applying the template so that i get the replica of the source site.

I am getting the error- "Scope of template does not match target" while running
the below powershell script to apply the template -

Hi Shail,

We can create copy of Site Using the SG Tool. I am sharing the steps below.

Step 1: Connect the source & Target , Choose Advanced Copy.

Step 2 : Select the required configurations which is required & make a copy of the site.

It will make the replica of your site.
