Runtime Value Access

Hi, I am in need of some erudite mentors... since I am entirely new to c# i am facing a lot of problem in reflection's concept. What i want to ask is can i retrieve any variable's value at runtime. I know i can discover type and name of any object's variable at runtime via RTTI but i want to display the actual value store in the variable. If any one here can help me? I am in hurry n nedd immediate help..I have just one day... Thanx in advance. Anna.

You need to add a referene to the System.Data assembly. You can do that at the menu by clicking Project>Add Reference and then scroll down through the .Net components. -James

hi james... one more problem... i want to use System.Data namesapace for "tmpdatarow" variable in ur code but the ide is not recognizing it and says thisnamespace does not exist. wat should i do? Thanx fo ur help.

Well, going back to my original response, you can do a (foreach tmppi in PropertyInfo) and iterate through all of the Properties dynamically. The same can be done using MethodInfo.

Ok thanx... but wat to do if i want to make amethod a general method that is if i had 100 types of objects then how can i typecast all those?

hmm...okay.. then once you are at that point, you should just box (typecast) your object back into the type you want to work with... void amethod(Object o) { MyClass tmpclass = (MyClass)o; } then you have access to all the public members of your class. -James

Anna, Perhaps you need to restate your question. The code I gave earlier is from a fully functional application, so if you're having errors with TypeOf, then it sounds like they are syntactical rather than logic issues. -James

Thanx James... But still the problem is not solved..:( infact i have mad a method accepting OBJECT type parameter andnow i need to acess the original object type which was given at runtime n then display all its fields with value. And typeof(MyAssembly) gives error ... wat to do? plz reply.

Anna, the answer is yes, you can get the value of a member at runtime. Here is some code that gets the values of all properties in my assembly... Pay close attention to the GetValue method of the of the PropertyInfo class. tmptype = typeof(MyAssembly); tmpproperties = tmptype.GetProperties(); foreach(PropertyInfo tmppi in tmpproperties) { tmpdatarow[tmpobj.ToString()] = tmppi.GetValue(MyClass, null).ToString(); } }
