Server 2008 - How do I: Add remote user

Hello:

I have Server 2008 and I need to add a remote user. I Do not have the "SQL Server Managemnet Studio 2008". I have the Visual Studio 2008 Pro. I was told that "SQL Server Management Studio 2008" can not be installed if you have "Visual Studio 2008". I am suppose to everything within VS 2008.

I know how to use "SQL Server Management Studio 2008" and setup a remote user access, but dont know how to do it within VS 2008.

Can someone help me with this issue?

Try "View | Server Explorer"; that might do everything that SQL Server Management Studio does. I am not sure but it might. It is frustrating when Microsoft says that something is in there but they don't say where. One problem is that Microsoft changes the names of thing very much.

The "SQL Server Management Studio 2008" allows you to add Security for the Login. I could not find that anywhere in VS2008. I needed to create a user that was allowed to login to the server with the password and grand access to sertain databases.

Thank you for the information. There was a time when I found places in the documentation describing tools for SQL Server Compact Edition but I could not find where to download the tools. I think I found one but it did not install and said something cryptic about not needing it. I eventually decided that everything the tools can do is in VS 2008, so I was not sure if that was also true about SQL Server Managemnet Studio.

Nope not there....

I received an link from Lizard... It shows what to do in different situations. Mine, was that I just need to reinstall Server 2008. The do the updates. Im enclosing the link, it might help someone else.
