Software to indicate

You said you are reading online.  Did you consider using a cookie with a long expiration date to maintain information about your last left position in the reading?  If you are using JQuery you could try the cookie plug in.  Have a look at the examples including setting the expiration date on this page:  https://github.com/carhartl/jquery-cookie
