Question

Hi, This is propably a stupid question, but here goes. There are programs available that let you view the source code for compiled .Net programs (.Net Refector is one, I think). I would rather not let just anyone view my hard, time consuming source code. Is there a way to "encrypt" the code, or a setting in VS.Net I can change?? Thanks for all of your time and help.

I suppose the obvious suggestion is Dotfuscator http://www.preemptive.com/products/dotfuscator/index.html , which includes a light version with Visual Studio. I have also used WiseOwl Demeanor http://www.wiseowl.com/products/products.aspx because it comes with Delphi 8. I haven't used either one beyond starting it up to see what it does, but I'll leave that to you.

In short: No. IlDasm.exe which comes for free with the .net framework allows decompiling to IL Assembler. You can use a code obfuscator, but mind you *every* piece of software can be decompiled and read. Allthough abfoscation makes it harder to figure out program logic, tis still not impossible. This also goes for non-.NET exe's btw. Any executable can be decompiled to assembly code. It depends on the skill of the person who does it whether it really makes any sense to them.
