Store a typical xml file into database

I think we need clarification of the question. The question might be asking how to import the data that the XML contains; not the entire XML as-is. If so, then it is two or more questions; the first question is how to read XML and the other is how to write to a database.

From SQL Server 2008, xml is datatype so you can use xml datatype to store xml data.

you can also use text and varchar(max) to store xml.
