Suitable protocol for chat application, .net compact framework 2.0 & HTTP1.1 protocol suits or not ?

I need information about the chat application using HTTP1.1 protocol.

what is suitable protocol to develop the Chat application in .Net and .net compact framework2.0, and is it possible to implement chat application using the HTTP1.1 protocol. (Client - server - client ) chatting application.
